Alarm Systems… What you need to know before installing one!
Having lived with an alarm system and without an alarm system, I want to share a few things to watch out for when purchasing an alarm system. I have lived in various apartments, condos and single family homes with children and without children. Security is pretty high on the most sought after emotions list and if you can’t feel safe and secure in your own home, you might want to consider installing an alarm system with 24 hour monitoring service. When a person has had their home broken into, they feel threatened and violated. You don’t need to tell them twice that they need a better security system. Normally, they don’t hesitate, and without delay they will contact a company that will set up an alarm system. Or they install iron gates or iron bars on their windows. Many Iron Gate companies can make your home look beautiful and secure at the same time. Decorative Iron Work is very popular among designers here in southern California.
It’s when you think everything if perfectly fine, that you find out the neighbor across the street had a break-in in the middle of the night, while they were home and stole the computers & TV’s. Thank God that’s all they wanted and they got out there and everyone lived to see another day and they only had property loss. This example is a true story and happened to me and my neighbor and we live in a very nice neighborhood. You just never know. What could my neighbor have done differently to better protect his family?
He could have installed an alarm system to protect entry through the windows. Even if the windows were open, motion sensors could have picked up unwanted movement downstairs He could have had a company monitoring his home and they could have dispatched the police to the home.
Many systems have silent alarms and the company you’ve hired calls your contact person to see if someone inadvertently set off the alarm. If the alarm company gets no reply they then inform the local police department. When the police arrive at your home or place of business, they demand to see identification of the person who set off the alarm.
However, alarm companies. do more than keep criminals away from your property. They also know when other emergencies arise, like a fire, and they will contact the fire department. Many also have a panic button similar to those in banks when problems exist, and when someone hits the panic button, they find out why, then call the authorities.
Like anything else, you need to check out alarm companies. See how long they’ve been in business, are they members of the Better Business Bureau? Check with their competitors, and compare their prices, and make sure they live up to their promises. Then check their references, and a good company will definitely have some.
The alarm company will come to your home or business and set up sensors in sensitive areas. When those are in place, they will be able to tell if a window or door has been opened and the sensors alert the company. They also have motion detectors in case someone has entered through other means than by a window or a door.
Alarm companies use high tech surveillance technology to maintain your properties; they may set up cameras that work only when someone comes into the cameras scope of vision. The motion caught by the cameras then alert the alarm company who then call the police.
Some alarm companies also deal with local locksmiths to help maintain the security of your property. The locksmith will help when a lock has been broken by fixing or replacing the lock with new keys. The two work hand in hand to secure your property.
No one could protect their own property 24/7, and today’s alarm companies strive to do just that by keeping people in place and with the help of a digital alarm will know instantly when others approach.
